PwC announces collaboration with RISE

PwC Cyprus’ collaboration with the Research centre on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging Technologies (RISE Ltd), was announced at a Press Conference held on Wednesday, 27 March at PwC’s offices in Nicosia.

RISE was founded last November with the objective of becoming an important pillar of growth for the Municipality of Nicosia and Cyprus in general, as well as the entire research and business community of Cyprus.

The Municipality of Nicosia is the coordinator of the project consortium, which also includes the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology and Open University from Cyprus, as well as the Max Planck Institute in Germany and University College London. The consortium secured funding through a competitive call in the “Teaming for Excellence” Programme, which is part of the EU’s “Horizon 2020” framework for Research and Innovation. The project is part of Nicosia’s comprehensive plan to become a centre of technology and innovation as well as a smart, knowledge-based city, with a view to achieve sustainable development.

At the moment, certain units of the RISE project are accommodated at PwC’s offices in Nicosia.

The CEO of PwC, Mr Evgenios Evgeniou and the Mayor of Nicosia and Chairman of the BoD of RISE Ltd, Mr Constantinos Yiorkadjis addressed the Press Conference. Moreover, the Research Director of RISE and Professor at the University of Cyprus, Mr Yiorgos Chrysanthou, briefly presented the Centre’s goals and actions.

In a statement, Mr Evgeniou welcomed PwC Cyprus’ participation in the island’s biggest-ever applied research and innovation project, by providing services and hosting a part of the project’s operations. “Today more than ever, research, technological development and innovation are significant drivers of growth. PwC Cyprus supports such initiatives and actively participates in them in order to create a better tomorrow”, he said.

Mr Yiorkadjis thanked PwC for its collaboration with RISE Ltd and wished for a continuous & fruitful cooperation.
