RISE presented as best practice in the municipality of Nicosia during “YUFE Mayors and Executives Meeting” 

The mayor of Nicosia, Konstantinos Yiorkadjis participated in the “YUFE Mayors and Executives Meeting” in Maastricht as part of the YUFE-Young University for the Future of Europe project on 13 and 14 January 2020. Nicosia Municipality participates in the project as a cooperating local authority together with other municipalities such as Maastricht, Rome, Madrid, Bremen, Antwerp. The aim of the involvement of local authorities is to explore methods of closer cooperation between universities and cities, exchanges and placements of students as well as to develop solutions to local challenges that have European and global Dimension.
 
The aim of the project is the development and implementation of a new model of European university. The main challenges for universities to focus with local authorities are empowering young people, developing sustainable societies, innovation, migration and integration, work and learning in a digital society. With a philosophy of “giving and earning” the project will connect 150,000 students, with 25,000 faculty and staff members with the 10 million citizens who live in the affiliated areas of YUFE and together will face the challenges and will Create a more cohesive society.
 
At the meeting, Mayor Yiorkadjis presented the creation of RISE – Research Centre on Interactive Media, Smart Systems and Emerging Technologies, as best practice in the Municipality.
