On a bright Thursday in April 2025, CYENS Centre of Excellence opened its doors to students from American Academy Nicosia and Pascal English School, marking the beginning of what we hope will become a lasting tradition our very first Open School Day 

Welcoming over 230 students, the event transformed CYENS into a living, breathing space of discovery. Through hands-on tours and live demonstrations, students engaged directly with groundbreaking projects at the intersection of art, science, technology, and society. From immersive virtual reality in education (XR4ED) to AI-driven heritage preservation and interactive health tech, the day offered young minds a glimpse into how research can be creative, collaborative, and deeply relevant 

Participating projects and teams included: 

• The Suit by the Pulse Research Team 
• XR4ED and Meditation Demo by the XR for Education Team 
• The Dragons, DeepNic, and Astrotourism by the ITICA, Museum Lab, and 3D Software Development Teams 
• Magic Lantern Prototype 
• CYENS Thinker Maker Space 

The initiative, led by General Director Yiorgos Chrysanthou, reflects our commitment to inspiring the next generation of innovators. With the support of our teams and the energy of our visitors, Open School Day set a new benchmark for youth engagement in research and innovation. 

We’re already looking forward to the next one and to welcoming more schools, more educators, and more curiosity into our Centre.
