On May 13, 2025, CYENS Centre of Excellence welcomed Max Sims, CEO and Co-founder of MindTrace Technologies, for a dynamic and inspiring Start-Up Talk as part of the Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative (YTILI). Hosted in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State and American Councils for International Education, the event brought together researchers, innovators, and students for a deep dive into the realities of building a neuroscience-powered startup.

Max shared his journey of founding MindTrace during graduate school and scaling it into a mission-driven HealthTech company that is now transforming brain surgery practices in U.S. hospitals. His talk offered invaluable insights into:

The path from academic research to commercialization

Navigating accelerator programs and fundraising

Achieving U.S. medical device certification

Building a company at the intersection of technology, impact, and healthcare

We extend our thanks to Marios Pafitis for facilitating the visit, and to Shaziye Mehmet and Ioannis Koureas for their excellent coordination. Events like these reflect CYENS’ commitment to global innovation exchange and empowering the next generation of tech leaders.
