About the position  
The EdMedia Group of CYENS aims to conduct applied research and innovation in the field of Interactive Media for Education and Edutainment. EdMedia work is related to learning experience (LX) design, User Experience (UX), technology-enhanced learning, training and pedagogy, technology integration in formal, non-formal and informal education, assessment and evaluation.
EdMedia aims to advance learning facilitated by technology or instructional methods which make effective use of technology (i.e. game-based learning, computer-supported collaborative learning, learning in AR, VR, and mixed reality settings, etc.). The group is an extension of the Cyprus Interaction Lab Group of the Cyprus University of Technology (https://www.cyprusinteractionlab.com/)
 
The successful candidates will have the opportunity to conduct fundamental and/or applied research in the aforementioned areas. Where applicable, candidates may also participate in the preparation of project reports and deliverables, research proposals for funding, software development, and travel abroad for dissemination activities. Furthermore, successful candidates will be encouraged to publish/present their research results in prestigious international conferences and journals.
 
Position holders are expected to   contribute to the dynamic and collaborative research environment of EdMedia, support current and upcoming projects, collaborate with and support other researchers of the group,  conduct applied research and publish/present research work, prepare and submit research and innovation proposals for funding, pursue collaboration opportunities.
 
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Andri Ioannou, Leader of EdMedia
 
 
Responsibilities of Research Assistant

  • Contribute to the dynamic and collaborative research environment of EdMedia,
  • Support current and upcoming projects of EdMedia,
  • Collaborate with other researchers of the group, 
  • Conduct applied research and publish/present research work in the fields of EdMedia,
 
Responsibilities of Research Associate 
  • Contribute to the dynamic and collaborative research environment of EdMedia,
  • Support current and upcoming projects of EdMedia,
  • Collaborate with and supervise other researchers of the group, 
  • Conduct applied research and publish/present research work in the fields of EdMedia,
  • Prepare and submit research and innovation proposals for funding,
  • Pursue collaboration opportunities with research and non-research organizations,
  • Support the academic leader in administrative tasks, such as preparing reports, managing budgets, and maintaining research documentation.
 
General qualifications and requirements
  • University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or Degree of a level equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree) or Diploma or Certificate or other study title or qualifications in relevant field including Design, Multimedia and Graphic Arts, Educational Technology, ICT/Informatics.
  • Demonstrated experience in the abovementioned list of responsibilities
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent written and oral English-language skills will be required, especially in reading technical / research articles.
 
Qualities of the  ideal candidate 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently.  
  • Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, having the ability to deal confidently and politely with enquiries.  
  • Very good analytical skills coupled with attention to detail.  
  • Dynamic, adaptable, hands-on and results driven.
  • A team player with an ability to work independently and under pressure. 
  • High levels of commitment, energy, and drive.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
 
(for Research Associate post the following will be considered an advantage.):
  • Previous experience with leading research projects.
  • Previous grant-writing experience.
  • Ability to independently identify problems and carry out research work.
  • Previous experience with social innovation projects that involve technology integration i.e., democracy, citizenship. Evidence of work with innovation outcomes / products.
