His research interests are in adaptive video processing and delivery for real time applications, including 360o video coding, computer vision for healthcare applications using deep learning methods, interactive and distributed analytics of large-scale image and video databases, and mHealth and eHealth systems and services. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, and book chapters, in these areas, including 1 patent. He was the lead Guest Editor of IET Healthcare Technology Letters, Special Issue on mHealth-Emerging Mobile Health Systems and Services (10 papers), published in 2016 and the Guest Editor of the research topic on Connected Health: Status and Trends (11 papers) published by Frontiers in Digital Health in 2020. Since 2021, Dr. Panayides has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (J-BHI) (Impact Factor: 7.021). Dr. Panayides is actively involved in national and international research projects, funded by the European Commission, the Research and Innovation Foundation of Cyprus, and the National Science Foundation, USA. He is also serving as an expert reviewer for H2020 proposals. Dr. Panayides has managed funding as principal investigator (PI) or co-PI of more than €1.7 million with €0.5 million awarded for personal fellowships. In 2016, he co founded 3AHealth (3ahealth.com), a start-up company based in Cyprus that provides innovative and citizen-centric solutions throughout the healthcare pathway. Dr. Panayides was the deputy national architect of Cyprus’ EU Digital Covid Certificate (https://www.eudcc.gov.cy/) portal.

In 2021, she obtained an MSc in Applied Statistical Modelling and Health Informatics with a Distinction award from King’s College London. Her research interests include the application of data science and machine/deep learning on patient data for enhanced diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics. 

AI Research Engineer with a background in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a strong focus on medical imaging and deep learning. Currently working on the development of end-toend AI pipelines for cardiac ultrasound analysis, specializing in right ventricle segmentation and automated extraction of clinical functional indices. Experienced in medical image and video processing, dataset curation, quality control workflows and close collaboration with clinicians. Highly motivated to develop reliable, clinically applicable AI systems for real-world healthcare applications.

Ioanna Valiandi received her B.Sc. degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Cyprus (UCY) in 2020 and her M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in 2025. She is currently a PhD candidate at CUT, Limassol, Cyprus.

From 2020 to 2021, she worked as a Special Scientist at the UCY. Since 2022, she has been a Research Associate at the CYENS Centre of Excellence, in the VIDEOMICS group, which focuses on Adaptive Video Processing and Delivery for Real-Time Applications. Her research focuses on video coding and processing, adaptive video delivery for real-time applications and 360o video coding. She aims to further advance her research in AI-based coding techniques and neural video encoding. Her research interests encompass video codec comparison, adaptive video streaming, video quality assessment and user Quality of Experience, leveraging extensive medical and general-purpose databases, including 360o video.
