CYENS Kicks Off RAISE-UP European Project on Responsible AI in Education

CYENS Centre of Excellence is proud to participate in CySKILLS-AI, a national research and innovation project developed in collaboration with Artemis Intelligence and the Ministry of CYENS Centre of Excellence is proud to be part of RAISE-UP, a European project funded under ERASMUS-EDU-2025-PI-FORWARD-DIGITAL-AI, aimed at supporting the responsible, ethical, and pedagogically meaningful use of Generative AI in higher and vocational education.

The project officially launched with a hybrid kick-off meeting hosted at CYENS on 16–17 April, bringing together partners from Cyprus, Latvia, Germany, Malta, and the Netherlands. The initiative responds to a growing need across Europe for more structured, inclusive, and evidence-based approaches to the integration of artificial intelligence in education systems.

The CYENS team, through the EdMedia research group and under the local coordination of Andri Ioannou (Cyprus University of Technology), is leading work focused on mapping current practices, institutional readiness, governance challenges, and stakeholder needs related to Generative AI adoption.

RAISE-UP is built around a shared set of objectives:

Understanding how students, educators, institutional leaders, and policymakers engage with Generative AI
Identifying gaps in readiness, governance frameworks, policy, and assessment practices
Developing practical tools, AI sandboxes, and guidelines to support responsible integration
Strengthening AI literacy and institutional capacity across higher and vocational education

Running from 2026 to 2028, the project will deliver research-driven insights and practical outputs to support education systems in responding effectively to the opportunities and challenges of Generative AI.

The kick-off meeting also featured a contribution from Demetris Skourides, Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Cyprus, who provided valuable perspectives on the national AI strategy and its alignment with European developments.

CYENS extends its sincere thanks to all project partners and participants for their active engagement and collaboration during the kick-off meeting, which set a strong foundation for the project’s implementation.
