CYENS Centre of Excellence is a leading Research and Innovation hub specializing in Interactive Media, Smart Systems, and Emerging Technologies. As the only organization in Cyprus dedicated to immersive technologies, it plays a vital role in advancing knowledge and facilitating technology transfer across the region. This Centre is the result of a unique collaboration between three public universities—the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology.
CYENS Welcomes EU and National Leaders During the College of Commissioners’ Visit to Cyprus

On 16 January, CYENS Centre of Excellence had the honour of welcoming Nicodemos Damianou, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, together with Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, during the College of Commissioners official visit to Cyprus.
The visit included a presentation of CYENS, highlighting its mission, research focus areas, and strategic role within the national and European innovation ecosystem. The delegation also toured CYENS’ premises, including the Makerspace, and engaged with selected startups showcasing innovative solutions across a range of technological fields.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration to advance Europe’s digital priorities, with particular emphasis on resilience, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy. The visit reaffirmed CYENS’ commitment to contributing to a strong, inclusive, and future-ready digital Europe through research excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
