Establishment of collaboration between RISE Centre of Excellence and Wargaming

During an event that took place on April 17th, at the premises of the Research Centre on Interactive Media Smart Systems and Emerging Technology (RISE), in the PwC buildings in Nicosia, the Research Director of RISE, Professor Yiorgos Chrysanthou received state of the art Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality equipment, offered by Wargaming Group Limited. The equipment was donated to RISE in the framework of the cooperation between the two organizations. Professor Chrysanthou expressed the appreciation and satisfaction for the excellent cooperation and long-term partnership.

During the event, Stefanos Demetriou, the R & D Manager, Lead VR / AR of Wargaming Group Limited, stated that ‘Wargaming recognizes and supports the important and catalytic role of RISE in changing the ecosystem in the area of computer games in terms of research and innovation.’

At the same time, the CEO of the RISE Centre of Excellence stressed the importance of cooperation between the two organizations ‘RISE Centre of Excellence embraces the support of a major international organization such as Wargaming, in the domain of computer games, and aspires in a long-term fruitful collaboration. The state of the art equipment received by Wargaming is of major importance for the establishment of the RISE laboratories as research and innovation hubs.’

RISE is a Research centre in Cyprus focusing on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies. The Centre of Excellence empowers knowledge and technology transfer in the region. It is a joint venture between Nicosia Municipality, the three public universities of Cyprus (University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, Open University of Cyprus) and two renowned international partners, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Germany) and University College London (UK).

RISE is designed to act as an integrator of academic research and industrial innovation, towards the sustainable fuelling of the scientific, technological, and economic growth of Cyprus and Europe. The Centre of Excellence, in the framework of its strategy for bridging the gap between research and industry, provides for cooperation with Cypriot and international enterprises.
