Kombucha Workshop Explores Fermentation at CLEVERFOOD Exhibition

As part of the CLEVERFOOD for Everyone exhibition, CYENS Centre of Excellence hosted an introductory workshop on kombucha, offering participants an engaging exploration of fermentation processes and sustainable food practices.

The session introduced participants to the fundamentals of fermentation, including the role of cultures and the scientific processes involved in kombucha production. Through guided discussion and tasting, participants explored how different teas and ingredients influence both the fermentation process and the resulting flavour.

The workshop provided a hands-on learning experience that connected scientific concepts with everyday food practices, encouraging participants to better understand the processes behind what we consume.

Following the strong interest in the session, an extended version of the workshop will take place on 15 May 2026. The upcoming session will offer a more practical experience, allowing participants to create their own kombucha and continue experimenting at home.

This activity forms part of the broader CLEVERFOOD programme, which aims to promote awareness around food systems, sustainability, and the science behind everyday food production.
