CYENS Centre of Excellence is a leading Research and Innovation hub specializing in Interactive Media, Smart Systems, and Emerging Technologies. As the only organization in Cyprus dedicated to immersive technologies, it plays a vital role in advancing knowledge and facilitating technology transfer across the region. This Centre is the result of a unique collaboration between three public universities—the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology.
Opening Event of the ClimAid Research Project

The opening event of the research project ClimAid, titled “Climate Resilience for Museums and Cultural Institutions in Cyprus – From Research to Action,” took place on 17 October 2025, bringing together museum professionals, policymakers, researchers, and cultural stakeholders.
The event focused on exploring how museums and cultural institutions in Cyprus can strengthen their resilience in the face of climate change. Participants were introduced to the project’s objectives, planned activities, and expected outcomes, as well as to the Open Call for Museums and Cultural Institutions, which invites museums to participate in selected project activities and benefit directly from the project’s tools and results.
During the event, Dr Maria Shehade, Project Coordinator of ClimAid and Senior Researcher at CYENS Centre of Excellence, presented the project’s vision and overall framework. Dr Andreas Kamilaris, Research Director of Periopsis, highlighted the impacts of climate change on Cyprus, while Dr Panagiotis Ntzeremes, Research Associate at CYENS, presented the details of the ClimAid Open Call for Museums and Cultural Institutions.
The organisers warmly thanked the Deputy Mayor of Nicosia Municipality, Mr Chrysanthos Fakas, the Director of the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, Dr Ioanna Hadjicosti, and the Research Director of CYENS, Dr Fotis Liarokapis, for addressing the audience and supporting the initiative.
The event marked an important first step toward strengthening climate resilience and sustainability across Cyprus’s cultural heritage sector. Further information regarding the Open Call will be announced soon.
