PainAid Hosts First Information Day with Healthcare Professionals on Pain Recognition in Dementia

CYENS Centre of Excellence successfully hosted the first PainAid Information Day with healthcare professionals, held at Στέγη Καϊμακλίου “Αρχάγγελος Μιχαήλ” Centre for Dementia Rehabilitation.

The event focused on the critical challenge of recognising pain in people living with dementia, particularly in cases where individuals are unable to communicate their discomfort verbally. Through participatory discussions and reflective activities, healthcare professionals shared insights into the behavioural, physiological, and contextual indicators that inform pain assessment in dementia care.

The discussions also highlighted key challenges in current practice, including the subjective nature of pain assessment, the use of fragmented tools, and the need for improved coordination across care settings.

A central outcome of the Information Day was the identified need for more integrated, multimodal, and practice-oriented support tools to enhance pain recognition and care for people with dementia.
