CYENS – Centre of Excellence, in collaboration with the Nicosia Municipality Multifunctional Foundation, is thrilled to present Youth Connect | Tech for Humanity, an educational activity blended with a hackathon focused on the future of technology. This innovative event will take place from November 22–24, 2024, in Nicosia, and will offer participants the opportunity to dive into emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, synthetic biology, and automation.
Event Highlights
At Tech for Humanity, you will not only learn about cutting-edge technologies but also gain insights into their social and environmental impacts. Building on the success of the AI for the Common Good program, this event aims to equip young individuals with the knowledge and skills to use technology as a catalyst for positive change. Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop AI-driven solutions that contribute to the common good.
Who Should Apply?
We are inviting young people aged 18–35 who are passionate about innovation, creative problem-solving, and new technologies. Participants from diverse fields, such as environmental and social sciences, design, business, STEM, communication, and new media, are encouraged to apply. No prior expertise in AI or emerging technologies is required, as training in AI principles will be provided during the event.
How the Event Works
Over the course of two and a half days, participants will:
Form interdisciplinary teams to create AI-based solutions.
Learn from expert Mike Lloyd, a leader in AI and deep tech.
Collaborate with a team of mentors from CYENS, including:
George Dimoglou – Multimedia Officer at CYENS, photographer and videographer, with a focus on documenting activities, events, and research projects.
Sophia Koni – Project Officer at CYENS, experienced in digital transformation and development of AI-driven digital solutions.
Kyriakos Mosphilis – Research Assistant at CYENS, focusing on explainable AI and nature-inspired algorithms.
Haris Psallidopoulos – Research Assistant at CYENS, with expertise in virtual reality, Unity development, and UI/UX design.
Marios Thoma – Research Associate at CYENS, specializing in neural-symbolic AI, exploring AI’s intersection with biology and evolution.
Produce a video message aimed at influencing leaders and shaping the future of technology.
The winning team will be awarded a study visit to Edinburgh, where they will join other winning teams from across Europe.
