Andria Shimi

Andria Shimi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cyprus (UCY), a licensed School Psychologist, and Director of the Memory and Attention Development Lab (MADLab). She is a Developmental Cognitive Neuroscientist specialising in cognitive and brain development, with a particular focus on attentional mechanisms and neurodevelopmental disorders. She holds a BSc in Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, an MA in School Psychology from UCY, and both an MSc in Psychological Research and a PhD in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Oxford. Her doctoral studies were supported by prestigious scholarships from the Bodossaki and Leventis Foundations. She conducted postdoctoral research at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit (University of Cambridge) and the University of Oxford, and held visiting scientist roles at the Sackler Institute for Developmental Psychobiology (Weill Cornell Medical College, New York), the University of Oregon, and the University of Edinburgh. From 2016 to 2018, she was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, funded by the European Commission. Since joining the UCY faculty in 2018, she has led several nationally and internationally funded projects. Her research integrates behavioural and neuroscience methods, including EEG, Virtual Reality, eye tracking, and neuropsychological assessments, to investigate how attentional control supports memory and executive function in both typical and clinical populations. Her overarching aim is to bridge basic and applied research to inform interventions that enhance cognitive performance and brain health. At CYENS, she leads the EU-funded research project “MINDFIT - Empowering Minds: Enhancing children's mental fitness”, which focuses on strengthening mental wellbeing through innovative interventions.
