ABOUT THE POSITION:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
About the Position   The Centre is seeking a  Research Associate to join its team of passionate and enthusiastic professionals.  We are seeking a Research Associate with expertise in Social Sciences, Psychology, or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) to join the HealthXR: Smart, Ubiquitous and Participatory Technologies for Healthcare Innovation multidisciplinary research group (MRG) at CYENS Centre of Excellence.   This role supports high-impact projects focusing on pain assessment and psychophysiological interventions for vulnerable populations, particularly people with dementia and cancer, using virtual and augmented reality, wearables, and human-centered digital tools.   The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Constantinos Pattichis, MRG Leader, and Dr. Maria Matsangidou, Senior Research Fellow, HealthXR: Smart, Ubiquitous and Participatory Technologies for Healthcare Innovation.      Responsibilities: 
  • Design, run, and analyze quantitative and qualitative user studies involving patient and healthy adults groups.  
  • Lead ethical protocol preparation and submission to the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee.  
  • Develop and execute multimodal data collection protocols involving observational, behavioral, physiological, and self-report measures.  
  • Ensure data integrity and GDPR compliance, particularly when handling sensitive health data.  
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (i.e., clinicians, engineers, designers).  
  • Support the preparation of scientific publications, deliverables, and reporting obligations.  
  • Participate in user experience (UX) design, co-creation workshops, and inclusive technology development aligned with HCI and societal impact frameworks.  
  • It may be necessary to travel for data collection and project meetings; all expenses will be covered.   
   
General Qualifications & Requirements:
  • M.Sc. and/or Ph.D. from an accredited university in Psychology, Social Sciences, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields, or a related area. (Candidates with other backgrounds but an otherwise solid profile may also be considered).   
  • Proven experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. Having experience with patients and/or a license to collect medical data is not a requirement but will be considered an advantage.   
  • Independence in creating study protocols and ethical documents for the National Bioethics Committee.   
  • Previous research experience and publishing high-impact research papers will be an advantage.  
  • Language requirements: Strong academic writing skills and English fluency.
